Technology is rapidly advancing, with AI (artificial intelligence) playing an increasingly visible role in our day-to-day lives and professional practices. News headlines highlight AI’s prominence in job interviews and hiring, journalism, law and other fields, but what about the coaching industry? How is AI’s role emerging and evolving within the coaching field? How can it and will it be used in our individual coaching practices?

Co-hosted and moderated by ICF NYC Professional Development members Adam Mirabella and Karyn Gallant, join us in converation with:

The Event

Purpose: To explore the how AI is and will be applied within the coaching profession.

Who is this event for: Coaches or individuals wanting to understand what may be on the horizon and how they may be able to leverage AI in their practice

Themes for discussion: The panelists will engage in a broad discussion around the opportunities and limitations for AI and implications for individual coaches. Themes anticipated to be explored include:

Where is AI playing a role in coaching today

What are the real uses

What are the current challenges

What are the EEOC interests in AI in general and coaching specifically

What are the possibilities of AI in coaching in 2 years

What will most likely change

What mindset needs to be embraced in order or this change to take place

What are the possibilities of AI in coaching in 5 years

What is the panacea of AI in coaching

What is ICF Global doing around AI as a key representative body for the industry?

What is happening with AI standards?

What are the core interests / cares for the ICF that drive these protocols

Learning Outcomes: To be aware and understand what is currently happening with AI in coaching. Then to start to create a personalized strategic view on how you may apply the tools of AI coaching to your current coaching practice. The intent is not to have AI replace a human coach but to augment their personal sessions by becoming an additional tool in the coaching arsenal.

Presenters

Rachel See has spent her career at the intersection of law, technology, and civil rights, and has led policy, litigation, and operational initiatives in the federal government and private sector.

Most recently, she served as an EEOC Commissioner’s Senior Counsel for AI and Algorithmic Bias, speaking frequently in furtherance of policy messaging and educational efforts regarding artificial intelligence and the applicability of the civil-rights laws enforced by the EEOC. Rachel previously served as the EEOC’s Acting Executive Officer, as a Special Assistant to the Chair, and as the EEOC's Assistant General Counsel for Technology. From 2011-2016, Rachel was the Branch Chief, E-Litigation, at the National Labor Relations Board. 

Before entering government service, Rachel was a partner at Williams Mullen in Richmond, Virginia, and an associate at Seyfarth Shaw in Chicago.

In 2022 at the EEOC, she received the Chai Feldblum Award, for her LGBTQ+ advocacy efforts. She is also the recipient of multiple EEOC Chair’s Honor Awards, as well as multiple awards from the NLRB General Counsel. In 2014, she was named one of the “Best LGBT Lawyers Under 40” by the National LGBT Bar Association.   

Rachel received her undergraduate degree from Yale University and her law degree from the Duke University School of Law. She is admitted to practice law in Ohio.

An accomplished classical musician, she regularly performs with the Symphony of the Potomac in Silver Spring, Maryland, the Washington Metropolitan Gamer Symphony Orchestra, and other ensembles in the Washington DC metropolitan area.


Dr. Nicky Terblanche is a Senior Lecturer on the MPhil Leadership Coaching, MBA and PhD programmes at the Stellenbosch Business School, South Africa. He has master’s degrees in Leadership Coaching as well as electronic engineering and a PhD in Business Management. His academic and research interests include leadership coaching with a focus on Artificial Intelligence Coaching. He also runs an executive and leadership coaching practice.

Nicky has published more than 30 research articles and book chapters and regularly presents at international conferences. He is also the founder of the company “AI Coaching Pty” that creates AI Coaches for organizations.


Joel DiGirolamo is the Vice President of Research and Data Science for the International Coaching Federation (ICF), where he leads the organization’s efforts to study the science and profession of coaching. Joel has published numerous articles, book chapters, and white papers on coaching research. He has more than 30 years of staff and management experience in Fortune 500 companies and is the author of two books, Leading Team Alpha and Yoga in No Time at All. Joel holds a master’s degree in industrial and organizational psychology from Kansas State University, an MBA from Xavier University, and a bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering from Purdue University. He is an Associate Editor for Consulting Psychology Journal.

With clients like Amazon, Dell, SiriusXM, Tik Tok, LinkedIn, eBay, Facebook, Adobe, Wharton Business School and Peloton, Adam specializes in Executive Coaching, Leadership Development, Creating a “Winning Culture” and Career Transition. Adam works with industry leaders to strengthen leadership and communication skills. He is especially skilled in working with leaders to understand and build their capabilities in the areas of emotional intelligence, team dynamics and powerful communication. Adam has a style that resonates with leaders at all management levels, successfully helping them portray their leadership vision and improve their business results as well as their professional life.

Adam’s coaching is grounded in his 25 year background working in a variety of business leadership roles. His experience ranges from starting new digital businesses for Fortune 50 Companies, to forming and overseeing global tech & media teams as large as 120 people in 40 countries around the world. The companies Adam has held leadership roles at include Time Warner, Sony, Nokia, Omnicom, Universal and Coca-Cola.

Karyn Gallant is a Professional Certified Coach (PCC) who believes we do not stop growing when we reach adulthood. She currently works with publicly traded and privately held companies with revenues ranging from $50 million to over $5 billion, with multiple start-ups and with a variety of non-profits operating locally, nationally and globally.  She has particular expertise working with startups and businesses that have an exceptional brand or legacy and understands that while creating opportunities for change, we must also take great care to preserve what is already working well. 

Karyn is on faculty at iCoach Global as both a teacher and supervisor of post- graduate students beginning their careers in Executive Coaching. She also works with boards and senior executive teams in conjunction with the CEO, helping them to optimize the relationship of governance, leadership, and vision.
